Safe House

Safe House is a dark thriller which, even with the star cast, still lacks depth in the story behind the characters. At first it is unclear why Tobin Frost is on the run? and we don't find out what job Matt Weston does until 20 minutes into the film. However the story line and acting from Reynolds and Washington makes up for the lack of depth and had it not been for Shooter (2007), it would have a much better review. In a tale where Denzel Washington is Mark Wahlberg and Ryan Reynolds is Michael Pena, a man (Tobin Frost/Bob Lee Swagger) is on the run from the law after he is betrayed by the "good guys". Both run into an inexperienced man who they cannot shake off and after the truth is revealed these inexperienced men become accomplices to the outlaws. The similarities between the two are uncanny but to be honest where Safe House lacks depth, Shooter creates more, and leads the way as the original potentially smarter film.
